Campaign Story

Let us introduce ourselves:

Chris Guerra, Kelsey Cooke-Guerra, & Matt Koppin – three independent producers attempting to complete a film in the midst of the lockdown in California. When the world came to a halt in Los Angeles in 2020, productions stopped, movies were delayed, and the film industry ceased to function. Five months in and we realized: we were in it for the long haul. That’s when it dawned on us: Now was the time for us to create!

With Chris’ background at the Groundlings Improv/ Sketch Comedy Theatre as well as the world of Broadway, Kelsey’s extensive background in TV/ Film and Theatre all over the country, and Matt’s background in Documentary Filmmaking all over the world, the idea for RE-OPENING came to fruition. Our goal was to tell a story (current circumstances in mind) with a cast of characters attempting to pivot in this new world, and failing miserably (for our enjoyment), encapsulated in a message of levity and hope.

This film is a timely comedy with heart, speaking into the extreme circumstances we have all undergone throughout the past year. We wanted to tell a hopeful, honest story of a small business fighting to get back on its feet after the hardest year of their lives.

In January 2021, we scraped together the resources we could and began production — filming over half the film under strict COVID protocols, and social-distancing. By mid-April, we had captured the first 50 minutes of the film. Now, we are about to shoot the most crucial scenes of the film and we are looking to our supportive communities to help us finish this hysterically relevant, fully-improvised, little piece of Mockumentary history.

All funds will go toward the remaining expenses of the film’s production and post-production, allowing us to safely gather our ensemble for the thrilling climax of the movie. Through tiered-rewards, and weekly updates and posts, we invite you to join us on this journey and donate to the Finishing Funds for RE-OPENING.
